Professors from MIT, Northwestern University, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology looked at early adopters and discovered a group of people that consistently purchase the new device that will fail. From Beta Max to the Zune, these consumers by the competing technology that will loose out in the marketplace to the VHS and iPod. They call them the “Harbingers of Failure”, and you can actually determine the success of your product by the success of the tech they’ve previously purchased.
